XV UBC General Conference in Kaunas
The Union of the Baltic Cities XV General Conference was organized in Kaunas, Lithuania, on 15–18 October 2019. Over 250 participants took part in the conference, joining different parallel sessions to discuss how to develop cities in an inclusive and resident-focused way.
Water is a crucial aspect in every matter of urban development, and throughout the conference it was given attention in the context of adapting to climate change, preparing for climate risks, and sharing good practices in sustainability from UBC Member Cities.
During the Commission meeting of the UBC Sustainable Cities, Head of the Sustainable Cities Secretariat Björn Grönholm also brought the attention of the participants to the water sector, highlighting the need to disseminate innovative solutions in the Baltic Sea Region. He introduced the audience to the Baltic Smart Water Hub online platform for exchanging knowledge and experience, and invited UBC Member Cities to contribute to it with the locally developed pratices.
To stimulate the involvement, Mr. Grönholm demonstrated the cities of UBC that already have some of their solutions showcased in the portal.
