Webinar materials: water safety from hazardous substances
The webinar "Ensuring water safety from hazardous substances" was organized on 24 November 2020 by UBC Sustainable Cities Commission to disucuss one of the main topics we work with in the BSR WATER platform. The webinar featured a presentation about mapping micropollutants emitted in the Baltic Sea catchment via municipal wastewater from Emma Undeman, Stockholm University Baltic Sea Centre. Moreover, it included presentations about the research, pilots and citizen campaigns launched in two transnational projects: project BEST and project NonHazCity. The work on sources and removal of hazardous substances in municipal WWTPs was presented by Vallo Kõrgmaa, Estonian Waterworks Association. Monika Piotrowska-Szypryt, Gdansk Water Utilities Ltd., in turn, introduced how to effectively raise citizen awareness about hazardous substances, based on the experiences from the NonHazCity project.
Presentations from the webinar are available on UBC SCC website.
Throuhgout the platform cooperation, BSR WATER is contributing to the development of the regional policy on nutrient recycling, hazardous substances and stormwater management in the Baltic Sea Region. The recommendations are based on the experiences and commonly used good practices tested in the cities around the Baltic Sea.
